Martello Tower. C.1,600 SQ FT. One of the largest in Ireland.
Have you ever dreamed of living in a Tower or a Castle?
Or on a Great Island?.
Now is your opportunity to acquire your very own Martello Tower. This Martello Tower stands on c. one acre of mature gardens, which include thousands of shrubs, and mature Trees. Azaleas, Rhododendrons, Camellias add colour to this spectacular setting. . The Tower was built in the early 1800's, and is one of only five in Cork Harbour. Originally built to protect the coastline from a possible French Invasion by Napoleon's forces. Fortunately Napoleon never darkened the Irish coastline with his presence which meant these Martello towers lasted a long and solid lifetime. The Tower was built for survival, the walls are 9 feet thick. In the 1920's, when the Old IRA managed to detonate a bomb within the interior, the explosion in the armoury damaged the internal walls and floors and a section of the domed roof, but left the solid oval exterior unblemished. The interior of the building did sustain some damage which indeed was a positive when the present owners decided to "undertake the restoration project". The fruits of their labour are simply amazing. While retaining many features of the original Structure, they skilfully re-designed and adding antique furniture and fittings, bringing the standard of Living to the comforts of the 21st. Century. If you are looking for that "home" that is truly different and in turn key condition, then the Martello Tower is just perfect for you.
